About this programme
On 8 October 2026, ahead of the expected El Niño conditions, we held an awareness programme on how to face landslides in Gamewela Watta village, in the Badalkumbura Divisional Secretariat area of Monaragala District, for the 62 families who live there.
Gamewela Tamil School, right next to the village, was introduced as the community's safe centre, together with a set of guidelines and an action plan for the low-income estate Tamil families of the area.
The programme was organised by active members of Nature View Foundation and completed very successfully with the support of the Monaragala District Director of Disaster Management and his staff.
